Silage covers protect your silage sheets from bird and wildlife damage
Secure Covers® make sheeting up silage clamps quick, clean and easy.
Made from a patent-protected, tough interlocked knitted HDPE, Secure Covers are used over silage sheets and fixed in place using Secure Gravel Bags.
The finely knitted mesh helps to prevent bird damage to the silage sheet and when pulled down, stops birds from feeding on the silage face.
Reasons to use Secure Covers
Made from a flexible non-fray knit, Secure Covers keep your silage film in close contact with the silage surface.
This creates an airtight seal, which will rid your clamp of surface waste and helps to reduce dry matter losses within your clamp.
Secure Covers unique construction, using our patent-protected square thread technology, reduces ‘wind lift’ ensuring your silage sheets remain in place on your clamp. This helps to improve silage quality by maintaining an airtight seal between the silage sheet and the silage surface.
Secure Covers protect your silage sheets from bird and wildlife damage, helping to keep oxygen out of your clamp.
All Secure Covers are supplied with a 10 year full UV stability guarantee.

Volac Topnet
Suitable for all makes of round balers
A versatile, premium quality, lightweight netting suitable for all makes of round balers - providing edge to edge coverage to help achieve compact, well shaped, bales every time. Each roll is guaranteed for 12 months to be UV stabilised, to prevent sun damage, as well as being both stronger and lighter than ever before - all thanks to new technology developed within the manufacturing process.
Leading choice in the production of high quality forage
The netting comes in a wide range of sizes, with directional roll side markings and convenient carrying handles for ease of use. The high specification the netwrap has been designed to will also ensure it performs consistently well within the baler- feeding easily into the machine and remaining tangle free during operation. All of which helps make it one of the leading choices in the production of high-quality forage.
Ideal for all balers, and all shapes of bale
This time and cost-effective wrap has all the protective benefits of standard film, whilst its unique pre-stretched design creates a tighter, less permeable, seal around the bale - significantly lowering the risk of spoilage. It is suitable for use with all balers, to create any shape or size of bale, and helps increase the final quality of winter forage produced.
Save time with fewer roll changes
With its special resin formulation giving it greater strength and lowering the risk of puncturing during use, each roll has an additional 400 meters of film compared to standard wrap. This means fewer roll changes, as well as a reduction in waste. Each roll is also interchangeable with standard film, meaning there is no need for time consuming changes or adjustments of machinery, before use.
Why use Topwrap RS1900?
• Save time and money: one roll wraps more bales so you can wrap more bales/day
• Extra film per roll: wrap more bales per roll
• Wrap up to 10 more bales per roll: fewer roll changes
• Up to 10% cost saving per bale Fewer rolls, roll changes, roll handling and waste
• Proven to be as good as standard film
• No need to change gears: use interchangeably with standard wrap
Wraps up to 30% more bales - up to 10 extra bales
Gives a 10% cost saving per bale
Reduces number of costly roll changes
Made using a revolutionary process in which the film is stretched under controlled conditions before it goes on the roll, so you get more film on each roll
Specially formulated resins produce a strong film which seals more tightly and has better permeability characteristics, while retaining all the protective qualities of ordinary bale wrap
Together, this process and the new resins make these products unique, giving real advantages to users
Best for the busy contractor
Save time and money: one roll wraps more bales than standard film
Fewer rolls used means fewer roll changes, less roll handling and reduced waste
Proven to be as good as standard film
No need to change gears: use interchangeably with standard wrap

The Silage Process
Silage, an essential component of modern livestock farming practices, refers to the process of preserving and fermenting high-moisture forage crops for long-term storage. It is a crucial technique that allows farmers to efficiently store and utilise large quantities of feed for their livestock, ensuring a consistent and nutritious food supply throughout the year.
The silage process begins with the selection of appropriate forage crops, such as corn, grasses, or legumes, which are harvested at their peak nutritional value and moisture content. After harvesting, the crops are immediately chopped into small pieces, typically ranging from 0.5 to 3 centimetres in length, to facilitate compaction and microbial activity during the fermentation process.
During the compaction process, the removal of oxygen creates an environment suitable for lactic acid bacteria, naturally present on the plant material, to initiate fermentation. These bacteria convert the sugars in the forage into lactic acid, lowering the pH of the silage and creating an acidic environment that inhibits the growth of spoilage organisms. The rapid drop in pH, typically to a level below 4.5, helps preserve the nutritional quality of the forage and prevents nutrient losses.
The fermentation process continues over several weeks, during which the lactic acid bacteria consume the remaining sugars and produce additional acids, primarily acetic acid and propionic acid. These acids further contribute to the preservation of the silage by inhibiting the growth of undesirable microorganisms, such as moulds and yeasts, which can degrade the forage quality.
Once fermentation is complete, the silage is ready for feeding to livestock. When properly prepared, silage serves as a highly nutritious and palatable feed source, providing essential energy, proteins, vitamins, and minerals to animals. Its moisture content and consistency allow for easy storage, handling, and distribution, making it an indispensable component of efficient livestock management.
To ensure optimal silage quality, farmers employ various management practices throughout the process. This includes monitoring and adjusting the moisture content of the forage during harvesting, ensuring proper compaction and sealing of the storage structure, and regularly assessing the quality of the silage through visual inspection, aroma evaluation, and laboratory analyses.
The silage process in farming is a meticulously controlled and scientific method of preserving and fermenting forage crops. It allows farmers to maximise their feed resources, minimise nutrient losses, and maintain a consistent and nutritious diet for their livestock. By employing proper techniques and management practices, farmers can optimise silage quality, contributing to the overall success and sustainability of their farming operations.
